Overcast skies and a cold NE wind greeted Leesville BASSMasters as we arrived to fish our final tournament at Lake Gaston on November 4. It was a stark contrast from the days leading up to Saturday, which were mostly bluebird skies devoid of wind. Thanks to the gracious hospitality of fellow member Jim Simons and his family, who were vacationing at a house on the lake, most members were able to spend the night and avoid having to drive up that morning.
After all fish had been brought to the scales, it was somewhat ironic that our Top 3 anglers for the season finished in their respective order in the last tournament. Craig Koefler took 1st place with a five fish limit at 5.78 lbs. Partner Tom Robertson followed closely in 2nd place with four fish at 5.38 lbs, and took big fish honors with 1.50 lb. Duke Bevard finished in 3rd with three fish weighing in at 4.06 lbs, and partner Sheldon Godrey finished in 4th with one fish at 0.92 lbs. Jim Simons did not bring fish to the scales. Of our anglers who caught fish, all noted that while they caught numbers of fish on tournament day, quality fish remained elusive. Well, that's a wrap folks! The 2017 season has come to an end. Congratulations to our 2017 champion, Craig Koefler, and our 2nd and 3rd place anglers, Tom Robertson and Duke Bevard. A second round of congratulations are also in order for Tom, whose 6.98# bruiser caught in early March in Tournament #1 at Shearon-Harris took big fish honors for the year. |
