Leesville BASSMasters launched our fifth tournament out of the Stonehouse Creek ramp at Lake Gaston. Temperatures at blast-off were in the upper 60s with morning cloudiness giving way to bright sun and temps in the low 90s. Water temps ranged from the low 70s to near 80 in some of the skinny water.
After weighing in all of the fish, Duke Bevard came away with the win with two fish weighing a measly 2.53 lbs, including a Spotted Bass. Second went to Tom Robertson (1 fish, 2.05#), and 3rd went to Craig Koefler (1 fish, 1.19#). Jim Simons did not bring any fish to the scales. Based on conversations we had with several members of two other clubs putting out of Stonehouse, Lake Gaston was stingy with many of their anglers as well during the day, Their accounts sounded very much like how our day went: grass, wood, rocks, docks...none seemed to be holding bass of any size. Our next tournament will be at Kerr Lake on June 3, and we're certainly hoping for a better day of fishing than what Gaston showed us today. |
