Leesville BASSMasters arrived at Mayo Lake near Roxboro, NC to fish our third tournament of the year, and was greeted at the ramp by the remnants of overnight thunderstorms. Water temps were in the low 70s, water clarity was 4+ feet, and a heavy overcast in the morning eventually transitioned to intermittent sun later in the day. Storms threatened in the afternoon, but luckily stayed north and west.
When all fish were weighed, Jim Simons, "The Man of 1,000 Lures", walked away with the win with a five fish limit of 7.23#. Duke Bevard followed in 2nd (3 fish, 3.81#), with Craig Koefler in 3rd (1 fish, 3.52#), and Tom Robertson in 4th (1 fish, 2.54#). Big fish went to Craig with 3.52#. Our next tournament will be held on May 6 at Jordan Lake near Apex, NC. Jordan is often jokingly referred to locally as "The Dead Sea", but it's one place where Tom Robertson's 6.98# Big Fish leader for the season could be eclipsed. |
