Leesville BASSMasters' sixth tournament of the year brought us to Kerr Lake (aka Buggs Island), where we were met with bluebird skies and a tough post-spawn/summer transition bite. Temps were near 90, although, a slight breeze kept it comfortable for the most part. Water temps were around 80-82.
Members reported catching a number of short bass, as well as a big crappie and a striper, but keepers were hard to come by. After all fish were weighed, Jim Simons walked away with his second win of the season with four fish weighing 6.30 lbs. Jim's partner, Tom Robertson, had the big fish of the day at 3.66 lbs, and also took 2nd place. Craig Koefler followed in 3rd (2 fish, 3.53 lbs), with current point leader Duke Bevard bringing up the rear in 4th (1 fish, 1.13 lbs). Our next tournament takes us to Randelman Lake near Asheboro, NC on July 8. Randelman is said to be one of the hottest lakes in NC right now, and was voted one of BASSMaster magazine's Top 100 Lakes in the U. S. in 2017. This will be first trip to Randelman for many of our members, and we're looking forward to fishing this thriving fishery. |
